Medical studies at Cambridge University have shown that lambswool pads have a soothing, swaddling effect on babies, resulting in better sleep, reduced stress, greater contentment and improved weight gain. Studies showing similar results have also been reported in the BRITISH MEDICAL JOURNAL, LANCET, and THE AUSTRALIAN MEDICAL JOURNAL. Researchers find when babies lay directly on lambswool, their activity rate is lowered producing a deeper, more restful sleep and promoting a faster growth rate. This is especially beneficial for premature and low birth-weight babies. Hospitals in England, Australia, and New Zealand have used lambswool pads to line their incubators for many years. They are designed for the baby to lie directly on the soft, deep pile lambswool, or if you prefer - under the mattress sheet.
Wool has become a year-round mainstream nursery item. In the summer babies stay cool and dry when they are on wool because of natural air circulation through the fibers. In addition, wool absorbs perspiration and moisture more than any other material. Of course, wool also keeps babies warm in cool weather. Pure lambswool soothes and comforts baby with a soft, swaddling effect, reduces stress and restless movement, and promotes sleep. Wool fibers also limit the growth of harmful bacteria and are naturally fire retardent. It's hard to get all of these properties in one fiber!
Lambswool one-inch deep pile pads are made from 100% pure, fine wool from the Merino sheep in Australia and New Zealand that has been hygienically scoured and treated to allow frequent machine washing and drying. The sliver knit fleece retains all of the natural qualities of sheepskin (including absorption of moisture vapor, softness and cushioning) without requiring that the animal give its life.
Care of Lambswool:
We recommend machine washing Lambswool products in cool water with
Kookaburra Woolwash or a mild laundering soap. Hot water washing of the Lambswool is not necessary for sanitization since the fibers naturally inhibit bacterial growth, essentially sanitizing themselves throughout normal use. After washing the article, it may be machine dried on an air-fluff or no-heat setting for 10-15 minutes and allowed to air dry on a line or drying rack. Light brushing after the product is dry will also help to maintain a like-new appearance.
